Referrers celebrate six years of WAKFU!

The festivities continue for WAKFU's sixth birthday. Now referrers are invited to the party! For one week, they'll receive not 10%, but 30% of the amount spent by their referrals! Now's the time to get in on the referral program!

After the Beta: The Huppermage rework

On Friday, February 16, we opened the Beta to have you test our reworked version of Huppermage over the weekend. Today, we're getting back to you to discuss your feedback.

During the last Beta, you had the chance to try out the new Huppermage. We carefully read your feedback on the forums and we made some changes to better meet your expectations.

 

We hope you like these changes. Feel free to tell us what you think of them by leaving comments to this post. Your opinion is important to us!

 

Elemental Spells

Resonance

  • 3 casts per turn (instead of 2)

Allows you to more effectively penetrate a target's armor and defenses.

Downpour

  • Damage increased by 10%

The limitation of casting in a straight line is better rewarded.

Vestige

  • Critical Hit steals 7% (instead of 4%) for each target hit.

Makes the gains from critical hits much more significant when the spell hits multiple targets.

Backband

  • Requires a water rune to generate armor (instead of fire).

The rune used by this spell wasn't good and caused an imbalance among the branches.

Diurnal Butterflies

  • Needs an earth rune to grow (instead of air)

Allows you to avoid undesired effects when Diurnal Butterflies is cast a second time because the spell itself will have generated an air rune.

Mirage

  • Switches places with the target before inflicting damage.

Allows you to occupy the targeted cell even if the spell kills the target.

Active Spells

Solar Stronghold

  • The damage reduction for Solar Stronghold is now based on the Huppermage's level. This reduction varies from -250 for level 1 up to -1200 for a level-200 player.

Just like for other classes and other spells, it was unusual that its effect wasn't based on a player's level.

Principio Valere

  • Costs 2 AP (instead of 3)
  • Can be cast as far as 5 cells (instead of 4)

Gives this spell more flexibility.

Passives

Fullness

  • Abundance is limited to 40 levels (as opposed to 50 before).

When used to its maximum capacity, this passive was a little too powerful, especially ever since we increased the damage of elemental spells.

Soul Development

  • Reduces the QB cost of light spells by 10-15% (instead of 15-20%)
  • Increases the Solar Stronghold damage reduction by 15% (30% at level 2).

The sum of the different Quadramental Breeze cost reductions for the spells was becoming too much, especially after removing the negative trade-off that this passive previously had. To off set this change, this passive gains a new effect that can render Solar Stronghold more powerful at higher levels.

Pulsation

  • The state of Flux and Reflux lasts until the Huppermage's next spell. The damage from the next spell is increased by 15-30%, and after this spell, the Huppermage gains 50 Elemental Resistance for the turn.

This passive was not rewarded well enough because the effect obtained had to be used right away even though it had an effect that could be useful during an entire turn. Thus, we revised the bonuses awarded for greater consistency.

Though often fraught with pitfalls, but never without its fun side, this journey we've been on together deserves a few occasions to celebrate. And there's one for you to discover from Friday, March 2 through Sunday, March 4!

A world to rebuild and defend isn't a barrel of laughs! Well, yeah, maybe... it is a barrel of laughs! With a lot of sweat, perhaps a few tears, and above all, lots of joy, which we share in with you day after day.

Before starting a new phase, we're just taking some time out to say… thank you! We also hope you'll continue to have even more fun throughout the World of Twelve.

The fun will be doubled for at least a few days because WAKFU is giving you double combat XP, professions XP (harvesting + crafting), and drops for 54 hours! And as well as that, a surprise is waiting for you in the game! It's a… well, no, if we tell you, it won't be a surprise anymore!

WAKFU Season 3: Global Release on April 1

After a very successful release on French television and Netflix France, WAKFU Season 3 is finally arriving on Netflix globally!

Finally, the wait will be over! After being released in France, WAKFU Season 3 is finally coming to the rest of the world on April 1. Don't worry: It's not an April Fool's joke. From Sunday, April 1, you can find all 13 episodes of WAKFU Season 3 everywhere Netflix is available.

This season will be available to view either dubbed or subtitled in several different languages.

The Beta is online: Enutrof Rework!

The beta server has been updated this Friday, March 2nd. Discover its new features and modifications, share with us your feedback. Be careful, the Beta will close on Monday!

Following the Enutrof's revamp, you've been telling us that you don't think some of their mechanics are fluid or interesting enough. We initially wanted to make improvements quickly so you would be happy with the class. Unfortunately, after careful consideration, we soon realized that the necessary changes would need be more in-depth than we originally thought. As a result, these changes have now been planned for an update in the very near future.

 
As it stands, the current Mines mechanic was causing us a few problems:
-  It lacks identity compared to "more obvious" mechanics such as Bombs, Traps, Portals, etc.
-  It lacks a common theme: It is used by the Enutrof when he/she is standing on one, to give bonuses to allies when they are on one, to inflict additional effects on enemies, etc.
-  It's not effective enough.
 
We have therefore reworked the Mine mechanic entirely to give it a more unique role and make it easier to understand. As it is the basis of Enutrof gameplay, we have also reviewed the effects of most of the Enutrof spells.
 
It will all be explained in more detail in the changelog. As usual, make sure you test the class this weekend and let us know what you think!
 

Main Mechanics

There are now three levels of mine rarity (bronze, silver and gold).
 
The Enutrof no longer discovers mines at the start of the battle, but must find them using his own skills. All mines found are bronze mines. At the start of each of the Enutrof's turns, all mines on the field gain a rarity level, and the rarest mines vanish: bronze -> silver -> gold -> vanish. When a gold mine vanishes or is consumed by an Enutrof's spell, the latter gains 1 WP.
 
The effects of the mines are as follows:
  • Bronze: The next spell removes 50 Elemental Resistance from the target.
  • Silver: The next spell removes 100 Elemental Resistance from the target.
  • Gold: The Enutrof wins "Treasures". The next spell removes 100 Elemental Resistance from the target.
 
The Enutrof benefits from the effects of a mine when he/she walks over it. He/she keeps these effects even if he/she moves to another cell with no mine. When the Enutrof uses the effects of a mine, the mine is consumed and a bronze mine is created on the targeted cell (even if there is a target on the cell).
 
Be careful though: Mines must be spaced at least two cells apart. A mine cannot be created if a there is another mine too close to it. Effects allowing for the creation of mines, as well as the "Treasures" mechanic will be explained in the spell details.

Fusion
  • 2 AP
  • 1 to 2 Range
  • 4 casts per turn
  • Deals fire damage in a 2-cell line
  • If the spell is cast diagonally: Fire damage over two cells diagonally
Meteor
  • 3 AP
  • 1 to 3 Range (cast in a line and diagonally)
  • If the spell is cast in a line: Fire damage over a 1-cell diagonal cross
  • If the spell is cast diagonally: Fire damage over a 1-cell cross
Ember
  • 4 AP
  • 2 to 4 Range (cannot be modified, with no line of sight)
  • The spell can also be cast on oneself
  • Fire Damage over a square ring 1 cell in diameter
Firedamp Explosion
  • 2 AP 1 WP
  • 1 to 4 Range
  • 2 casts per target
  • Applies Firedamp Explosion: At the of the target's turn, it deals Fire-type Damage in a 2-cell circle around itself
  • Collects the targeted Mine and repositions it under the Enutrof
Hot Magma
  • 6 AP 1 WP
  • 1 to 2 Range with no line of sight (cast in a line)
  • 1 cast per turn
  • Fire damage in a 1-cell cross
  • If the Enutrof has the Treasures state, consumes Treasures to remove 3 Range from the targets in the area

Water Branch

Purge
  • 2 AP
  • 3 to 8 Range
  • 3 casts per target
  • Single-target water damage
Rascalry
  • 3 AP
  • 3 to 5 Range
  • Single-target water damage
  • Removes 5 Critical Hit from the target for one turn

Summons a Drheller (random skin from the 5 available skins) which has 8 AP

Furrow
  • The Drheller gives himself 3 MP for the current turn
Drheller Claws
  • Attracts the target by 2 cells.
Tunnel
  • Switches positions with an ally, or picks up a Purse
Rocky Road (unlocked with the Drhellzertank passive skill)
  • Consumes a Mine to regenerate 10% of the Enutrof's max HP
Unlocks Drhellzerker:
  • Transforms AP into MP
  • +30% Dodge
  • The minimum range of spells changes to 1
  • The maximum range of spells changes to 3
Debt (formally Reaping)
  • 2 AP
  • 1 to 4 Range
  • 1 cast per turn
  • Gives the target a debt: a target in debt has -100 Elemental Resistance

Passives

Treasure Tracker
  • The Enutrof starts his/her battle on a gold mine
  • Increases the Enutrof's Dodge by 20% (30% at rank 2). Also increases his/her natural Prospecting from 15 to 30.
Geology
  • At the start of each turn, the Enutrof reveals a Bronze Mine on his/her cell if there are no other mines in a 2-cell radius
  • At rank 2 of the passive, reduces the minimum Excavation Range to 0
Not Dead Yet
  • In Enutrof form: Increases the range of "cast-in-a-line" spells by 2
  • In Drhellzerker form: The Drhellzerker gains 200 Melee Mastery
Trade Secrets
  • On targets in debt: the Enutrof deals 15% additional damage, 20% at rank 2
  • When Reaping a target, the Enutrof gains 1 MP (2 MP at rank 2)
Enutrof's Blessing
  • When the Enutrof consumes 1 WP, he/she recovers 4% of his/her missing HP (8% at rank 2 of the passive)
  • Reduces the recast time of Seismic Wealth by 1 turn
Enutrof Force of Will
  • Removing 1 MP steals 50 (150 at rank 2) Lock and Dodge for 1 turn
  • The Enutrof also gains 20 Willpower
Drhellzertank
  • Having the Treasures state gives 50 Elemental Resistance to the Enutrof
  • Unlocks the Rocky Road spell for the Drheller
  • In Drhellzerker form: The Enutrof gains 20% Lock (30% at rank 2)
Faking It
  • If the Enutrof is KO'ed and is on a Mine, he/she is faking it (and comes back to life the next turn)
  • He/she also gains a large amount of Armor when switching to Drhellzerker mode
Credit Interest
  • When a target in debt is KO'ed, a silver Mine appears on its cell, as well as on the cell of the character that killed it, as long as there are no other Mines in a 2-cell radius.
  • Broke drops two purses instead of one.
  • At rank 2 of the Passive, Debt can be cast twice per turn
Greed
  • Doubles the Damage gain per Mine of the Seismic Wealth spell (NB: Its max does not increase)
  • Reduces the recast time of Prime of Life by 1 turn
  • At rank 2 of the passive, Prime of Life gives the Enutrof 3 MP instead of 2

It's no secret: the WAKFU community is teeming with young geniuses with vivid imaginations. And we have to admit that every time we stumble on one of your creations, we are delighted, if not absolutely dazzled!

But Internet is a big place and many of them get lost in its vastness… Not to mention the few stubborn ones, the shy ones who don't don't quite dare to show off their own creativity and prefer to keep it to themselves. Yes, yes. Don't deny it! We see you, even in the shadows!

So, to convince you to share your drawings, paintings, cosplays, music, and even recipes inspired by the WAKFU universe, we have decided devote a special monthly roundup to them!

During the opening stream of Ankama Live on Twitch (available in French here), Tot has answered several questions that the community was asking him.

 

Is Dofus going to become Free to Play?

Tot: When I saw the frantic activity regarding this on Twitter, I couldn’t keep up at all! I merely suggested that this could be a possibility, and my words were warped. I wanted to explain to the community that we were pondering new ideas. Now, I’ve started a new blog for DOFUS Dungeons, so I’m picking up the pace on this.

We can’t make DOFUS into a Free to Play right now, there’s just too much at stake. We’re not the most efficient when it comes to monetization, if we take DOFUS Touch as an example. For a community of active players the same magnitude as DOFUS, DOFUS Touch has a much lower monthly revenue than his older brother. Our company is not part of the stock market, we’ve been alive and kicking for 17 years, which allows us the freedom of creating and not to be directed by money only.

 

What is DOFUS Dungeons exactly?

The idea is to create a new, simpler gameplay mode, in complete accordance with our community. We will make it free, amongst the other Dofus servers, and alter the gameplay and rules of the game as we much as we’d like, while at the same time dialoguing with the players about it.

Our objective is to move fast, and show you something playable this July.

The basic principle is to make the game simpler, by removing for example the jobs, the mounts’ rearing… and concentrate on small instance of zones containing many dungeons. Equipment drop will probably make a return as well. Our wish is to build this project in collaboration with our community.

At the same time, the DOFUS Dungeon’s server will be a “test” ground for future features of our historical games.

Wakfu Season 4

I’ve talked about this a bit before, but in animation, we don’t work alone: we’re depending on the TV channels. We can’t make Wakfu season 4 is France Television is not backing us up. They have a renewed interest in our show after season 3, since we wrecked their previous records on their web platform. Even if it takes a long time, between all the contracts and procedures, it’s going pretty well right now, France Television is very excited and Netflix has given us good feedback, with the show translated in 8 different languages. With our players helping us as well, we can probably get a season 4 rolling.

 

Dofus Cube

I’ve started the life of Dofus Cube on my personal blog because I wanted more simplicity and direct contact with you. The project now deserves its own space. I’ve really started to enjoy Game Design again, thanks to several projects, and helped by the fact that I’m working with some old friends I used to work with a few years ago. We’re having a solid testing of Dofus Cube’s 1v1 mode in two weeks from now. But we’re not abandoning the rest of development, as different parts are handled by different teams.

 

Princess Dragon

Regarding Princess Dragon, the release date is still up in the air. We wanted to make it a French-Japanese co-production, but the studio which should have partnered with us has retracted from the deal. JJ is currently working on the full story-board, and it looks absolutely gorgeous. We’re making progress, but we’ll probably have to wait until 2020 or 2021 to release it. This reminds me, I’ve received some criticism about how I write a lot of male characters, so I made an effort to write female characters this time.

 

WAKFU

We have big projects for this game, which has lived through several crisis. We took the decision to take a few months to stabilize the game and fix as many bugs as possible, putting on stand-by new content for a while and purifying the game in order to re-build on a cleaner ground.

Battlefields : Improvements and new game modes

For the next update (1.59), we've completely overhauled the design of the "Capture the Flowers" battlefield, and we're adding new variants to existing battlefields!

"Capture the Flowers" gameplay

This battlefield works pretty well after the improvements we've made, but we're still not completely satisfied. That's why we've decided to make some tweaks to its design so that the battlefield will generate more confrontations between players over different key objectives.

To achieve this, there will now be only a limited number of flowers to be captured from the enemy camp. You'll find them at 6 fixed locations around the battlefield, and only one flower can be captured from each location every 4 minutes for all players combined.

A player who captures a flower has to bring it back to their own team's pot, the same way as before. But the team no longer wins points right when it brings back the flower; instead, the team wins points over time, based on the number of flowers it has in its pot.

Note that a flower pot can only contain up to 10 flowers at a time. Your opponents can also come and grab a flower out of your pot, then bring it back to theirs! So it's important to defend your own flowers and steal as many as you can from your opponents.

A few final details:

  • The actions of picking and putting down a flower now take several seconds. This prevents the opposing team from stealing flowers from you before you have time to react.
  • If a player carrying a flower loses a battle, the flower is destroyed. It is not picked up by the opposing team.
  • A victory against Darth Wodent now applies a bonus state to all members of the winning camp, not just to the team that fought in the battle. That should make this objective a lot more attractive for everyone!

Heroic Battlefields

We'd like your help in testing out a new variant of the existing battlefield modes. This variant will be available on the "Great Escort" and "Capture the Flowers" modes. It's called "heroic" because if you defeat an opponent on this setting, they won't be able to return to the battlefield.

The goal of this variant is to raise the stakes for PvP fights and encourage the creation of multi-player battles. It should also allow a camp that's outnumbered to pull off a comeback win if they are better organized and better at PvP fights than their opponents.

"Free Fight" mode

You've asked for it many times in the past: a battlefield on which the only objective is to engage in PvP combat. Although we still aren't completely convinced of the long-term value of a mode like this, we've decided to give the people what they want!

This new battlefield lets you engage in all types of fights, from 1v1 to 3v3.

At first, this new type of battlefield will use the same map as "The Great Escort", but with no secondary objectives. If this mode is a hit, we'll create a separate map for it with a dedicated theme.

Battlefields


BlackFire: Will you be taking actions against players who take their time in combat and those who attack 3vs1?

For 3vs1, the goal of the battlefields is to not go alone and avoid 1vs1 scenarios, you need to have your teammates with you. We are well aware of players who take their time to slow down matches and we are thinking of solutions for it.

Zzaakii: I would like to know if you will really push the new modes, making it exciting by shortening the duration of the entire match?

This is not planned at the moment, we first want to see if this new modes pleases everyone. If so, we could think of a specific map with specific rules! A reminder that these new modes are first of all, a test.

Osa-play: In case of heroic battlefields, will it be necessary to wait until the end of the match to receive the rewards?

As with the current battlefields, rewards can be earned if you exit the match and even if you are offline! You will receive the rewards as soon as the battlefield ends, wherever you are. Therefore, there is no need to stay until the end of the battlefield. If you are killed in the first few minutes, then you can go out and do other things while waiting for your rewards.

Class Balancing


Rekopy: Will you balance other classes for 1.59?

All the changes we have done are already present in Beta.

Zblouxi: Will ALL classes be reviewed?

If you talk about balancing, we will always balance classes. It is a process developed in the long run and is always revisited.

Azuranto: Do ​​you plan to rework the Sacrier completely with the changes to Clinging to Life?

It is not planned to have another major revamp. However, we invite you to give us your feedback on the changes applied to Clinging to Life on the forums!

Will Blood Pact and Tattooed Blood eventually merge to have a bigger boost in health points?

No, it is not planned. Indeed, the passive would become so powerful that it would be mandatory for all the Sacriers. This would go against the goal of our passives to form builds according to your playstyle!

Midohka: When will you revamp Rogues?

Everyone is asking us what will be the next class revamp, so I think we can announce it and frankly, it's the bomb. If you got that reference, then the next class revamp will be... Rogue!

New Nations


Rekopy: Is the Nations revamp still relevant?

We had a lot of questions about the Nations revamp, so we would like to talk a bit about what was announced by Tot in last Monday’s Ankama Live. We talked about correcting and stabilizing the game, but rest assured that does not mean that we are not going to do anything. Stabilizing the game is also about improving what already exists. As for example, with the Battlefields, we keep improving the feature taking into account your feedback. Or the Mineral Tower, which has issues that we will be working on. We will also continue balancing classes. We also want to keep working closer with you via surveys, giving you feedback and thinking together! We will come back to you in the weeks to come to know your opinion on what could be our content priority.

As for the nations, we will keep working on them. In fact, Fhenris has just sent us screenshots of the new mines. In these mines you will find animated wagons and also mine carts to help you travel to different mines! Nations will also be bustling with animated NPCs, as well as new buildings.

 

Zzaki: Will the Nations revamp be patched at the same time as the Politics revamp? If so, can you explain how you see the synergy of these two features? Lastly, would it have a direct impact on the Outlaw VS Guards system and Battlefields, or do you have another thing in mind?

For now we do not have information to share, we need to have a little mystery! But do not worry, you'll hear about it when the time comes. Regarding the impact of the Politics revamp on PvP, yes! We would like to give tools to the players to impact the battlefields, schedules, territories to put back into play... but all that remains as a plan.

Rekopy: Are Astrub's changes similar to the Nations revamp or are they similar to another content?

No it has no connection with the new nations, it’s a surprise!

Miscellaneous


Sacripon: Is it planned to review the difficulty of Wakfu because when you increase the stasis difficulty, the rewards is not at par.

Yes, that goes with our Stasis Dungeons revamp. We want to adapt the Battlefield rewards model to Stasis Dungeons. Rewards that have more value but will be fewer for those who rank in many dungeons. We also want the entry into higher difficulty to be smoother to make them more accessible and to make the players challenge their record. We also want to review the affixes, giving them better descriptions (to make them easier to understand) but also to transform them completely. Instead of having penalties, we would have bonuses that, if the player decides to use them, it could, for example boost their damage and increase their chances of success! The choice in using them is completely up to you.

Ring-Nimme: Do you intend to modify Nogord to make it more accessible?

This is not a priority at the moment, it does not rule out the possibility of doing so after the release of new Ultimate Bosses.

Do you think of revamping WAKFU's interface? 

We talk about it a lot internally, but it's a project that took a lot of time for Dofus and it would certainly also take a lot of time for WAKFU. Unfortunately this is not part of our plans at the moment. However, with each new feature, we try to give a boost to the new interfaces as you have already seen.

I’ve heard about a potential improvement for Haven Bags. Is it limited to backgrounds?

We are actually working on Haven Bags to make them more customizable. We are studying the possibility of adding thematic backgrounds. For example for a winter themed Haven Bag, one could imagine a background filled with ice and snow. And we are also working on the possibility of adding a background sound depending on the kit you use! This is a work in progress and we have no date to announce at the moment.

Is it reasonable to expect one day to have more hairstyles for our characters?

With the release of the Ouginaks, we organized a contest, players had to draw new haircuts for this new class. We received a lot of great entries and this is something we would like to potentially do for existing classes, so yes!

Is an official PvP tournament planned?

Yes ! You will know more in the coming months and I can already tell you that it will be an inter-server tournament!

WAKFU: The Brotherhood arrives on mobile devices

To accompany the worldwide release of WAKFU: The Series on NETFLIX on April 1, 2018, ANKAMA is developing a new adventure game for mobile devices. It's the perfect way to discover the extended KROSMOZ universe that WAKFU is a part of – a mix of animation, video games and graphic novels.

 

Although it's still in the design phase, the time has come to share more details about our new mobile game, WAKFU: The Brotherhood.

Just in time for the worldwide release of season 3 of WAKFU: The Series, exclusively on NETFLIX, ANKAMA is developing a mobile minigame entitled WAKFU: The Brotherhood. The game provides a transmedia link between WAKFU: The Series and the WAKFU massively multiplayer online game on PC. 
WAKFU: The Brotherhood will be a minigame in which you play as the heroes of the Brotherhood, Yugo and his friends, working to thwart Nox's plans to invade the World of Twelve.


The mobile game is an introduction to the WAKFU universe, and will help players to better understand the connections between the series and the PC game. You will play as Yugo and his faithful allies in an adventure that puts you toe-to-toe with Nox, Master of Time, and his demonic scheme to devour the Wakfu of all living beings. You'll take on Nox and his army of robots, the Noxines, to put a stop to his deadly and relentless quest to seize the life energy of the World of Twelve's inhabitants. Timed to coincide with the release of the mobile game, WAKFU the massively multiplayer online game on PC will receive an update that sheds light on the younger years of the protagonists from the series. For now, though, we prefer to keep the contents of this update a surprise, except to tell you that it will have the same name as the new mobile game.

In an original story that takes place at the start of the first season of the NETFLIX series, you'll bash, smash, and obliterate Nox's robotic armies and use combos to take down the evil Master of Time! WAKFU: The Brotherhood will be available very soon on Google Play and in the App Store.
