Ankama Live - Wakfu #3

Here's a recap of our third Ankama Live. On this episode, we talk about Wagnar's Castle, Community Q&A, the PvP tournament, and the Boss Smasher costume!

If you missed the show, the replay is available at Twitch Ankama Live (in French). Without further ado, let's start the recap alongside [Owlie] and [Zorel]!

Boss Smasher Live: Wagnar's Castle

We raised the bar and went straight to Wagnar's Castle. We asked what class should we play, and you chose the Eliotrope!

[Owlie] needed some time warming up to get used to the lower level gameplay (level 95), and for [Zorel], it was her first time playing the class.

We would like to thank everyone who were present on the chat and in the dungeon with us until the last breath of Vampyro. We had lots of fun!

Q & A

SirJauneDeau: Will a month dedicated to the goddess Pandawa come (pack, finisher, etc.)?

Yes! When? This remains a secret... a pack dedicated to all of the Gods are planned.

Vilyn: When will new haircuts (and if possible basic clothes) be proposed for other classes aside from the Ouginak?

Note: We hosted a Hairstyle Design Making Contest when we introduced the Ouginak last year.

In light of the excitement generated by this event on the side of the artists but also to the players marveling at the creations, we plan to offer it to the other classes as well. It is difficult to announce a specific date since we already have other contests planned, so stay tuned!

SirJauneDeau: Will belts, rings, and other equipment be visible one day or will they be replaced?

The team is discussing on how to make them more useful in the future.

Vilyn: Do you plan to make high level relic items more accessible? That is, only with real-level 200 content and not using competitive mode?

It should be known that there are several ways to get relics. We would like to retain the rarity of these items so we are not considering at the moment having a new way of obtaining them.

Manboou: Is revamping the Sidekicks planned?

It is something that the team would like to do. We are aware of the strengths and weaknesses of each one, however a revamp is not planned for the moment.

Tompa: What about the Sadida Finisher which was actually the Amalia Finisher?

"Wait and see"... know that we have noted your feedback on this subject!

Wuju: Is there an option to disable the auras / emotes of other players?

The team had already discussed this and would like to have this option, especially for computers with low specs. We cannot confirm whether this is planned or not, however we have noted it on our side.

AtomeZz: Can we get married one day in WAKFU?

We are aware of this request as it is often raised, and we have already discussed it with the team. We would have to see first what this system could do (in terms of advantage), but for now, this is not planned. For the mean time, we know that you are full of creativity and that some players offer their "church themed" Haven Bags to host weddings.

When is the Nations Revamp?

We don't have any information to share yet, so while waiting here's a sneak peak of Brakmar:

The PvP Tournament

A dedicated article will be published this week. Watch out for it!

Boss Smasher and Chancelor's Party Costume

Your talents never cease to amaze us every day, so we decided to host a new contest. We will ask you to draw the Boss Smasher Costume, giving you the opportunity to design the costume of your dreams! And we'll host it soon!

Other contests will be held in August with great awards... Remember the artist Silveyn had designed the Chancelor's Party costume during a contest ... she has agreed to share her work by allowing us to offer it as a prize for community events similar to the Wodent and PeeVeePee costume!

Participate in the Gamakna Artbook!

In the space of a year and a half, many illustrations have been created specifically for Gamakna, the Ankama e-news magazine. Such work really deserves an artbook! A "real" paper version! And thanks to the Gam'Art contest, you too can appear in this exceptional publication…

The talent of Ankama's artists has been well established for a long time now. On the other hand, we never tire of showing it, presenting it, and distributing it. That's the purpose of The Art of Gamakna, a book that's currently being prepared, dedicated to the illustrations created by Xa, Maba, Ancestral Z, Mig, and Nicola Saviori for the first eight issues of Ankama's e-magazine.

Diligent readers will know that since episode 6, Gamakna has given a great deal of focus on the community's artwork through the Gam'Art contest. The idea is simple: Each episode of the magazine sets an illustration theme, and the best entries are published in the next issue.

That's how you too may have the pleasure – and the honor – of appearing in The Art of Gamakna: A jury composed of various contributors to Gamakna will select five works among those sent in for Gam'Art 1, 2, and 3! And as Gam'Art #3 ends on August 27, there's still plenty of time for you to get down to it!

You can find out how to participate in Gamakna #8!

We'll be in touch in September: The winners will be contacted directly. To your paintbrushes, crayons, and styluses!

New Inter-server Tournament open to all communities

A new inter-server tournament open to all communities is a perfect opportunity to meet new faces and see who's the strongest!

Announced last year and pushed back to make time for the PvP overhaul to reach the game, the WAKFU inter-server tournament is almost here! Here's what you need to know.

  • Recruiting Consulting Players

The goal here is to recruit consulting players for each community (FR, EN, ES, and PT) in order to help us with communication, brainstorming, and tournament organization. We want to put on this tournament hand-in-hand with our community in order to find the best formula for everyone's enjoyment!

To contact us about this, please see the FAQ below.

  • Forming Server Teams

The players from each server will have to form teams for the tournament and face off to reach a set number of teams per server who will face off against other teams in the inter-server tournament.

  • Ban System

We are going to set up a ban system during the tournament to allow players to exclude certain characters before the start of each combat. In our view, this adds a new strategic dimension, letting the most attentive players to throw a spanner in the opposing team's works.

  • Tournament Broadcasting

We will initially be offering an AnkamaLive for each major fight. We also plan on inviting players to comment the matches along with us from time to time!

In addition to that, we'd like to recruit independent streamers so that they can broadcast the tournament on their own channels and therefore in the various community languages. Of course, everyone is free to broadcast the tournament, but these streamers will help with organization and have official status giving them extras for their viewers!

To contact us about this, please see the FAQ below.

PvP Tournament FAQ

  • When is the tournament going to be held?

After summer vacation is over, to give everyone time to get back from vacation. Also, please note that the tournament will be long-running, with fights every week.

  • Where will the tournament happen?

The tournament will be in Ecaflipus, on the beta server. The FR contacts have sent us a list of map bugs, and the team is going to address them so that the tournament can happen under the best possible conditions!

  • Will there be stuff and specific levels to follow?

The tournament on the beta server will let everyone level up to 200. Next, special machines containing all the equipment in the highest level groups will be made available so that players can kit themselves out however they like. Indeed, we think that equipment is part of advance strategic planning, and therefore has a role in the PvP aspect of the tournament because it reflects fighters' specific skills. Rune use will, of course, be included in the upcoming reflections!

  • How many players will there be per team?

Our initial thought is 3v3 fighting, starting from 6-character teams, because that seems most interesting to us.

  • Will heroes be allowed?

Yes, but limited to 1 per person. We would like each team to be composed of at least three real players. Accordingly, dual accounts will not be allowed.

  • What will the tournament prizes be?

Mystery and suspense! We can't say anything yet, but we can promise that the prizes will be tip-top!

  • How can Owlie be contacted to help set up the tournament or make suggestions?

Your CCM is available everywhere:

  • on the forums via Ankabox messaging to [Owlie]
  • on Twitter via the @OwlieWakfu account or just @Wakfu_FR
  • on Facebook via private message to the "WAKFU - Le Jeu en ligne" account
  • on Discord, by joining the official server via private message to Owlie#4631
  • or by email to wakfucommunity@ankama.com
Don't forget to state the reason for your message. For example:
PVP TOURNAMENT – Application: Official PvP EN Streamer
PVP TOURNAMENT – Consulting Player

  • What will happen next?

You cannot wait to learn more about the tournament? Keep an eye on the website as a new article about it will be published soon. This time we will talk about the exclusive ban system imagined by consulting players who are bursting with good ideas!

We’re placing the spotlight on Hatespawn, and Nutella Covered Balls, the champions of Strengthstorm, Nox’ summer PvP Tournament.

Prior to winning Strengthstorm, what was your PvP experience?

Hatespawn: Actually, I've had plenty. A lot of the high levels on Nox have fought my Iop and Sacrier back when open world PvP was enabled, and I was well-known on the server for getting into 6v6 fights with Nutella and the rest of our guild, against other guilds like Black Black Club, and Rarehunters. Since I started really, PvP has been a main focus for me.

Nutella Covered Balls: Before this tourney, most of my experience has been fighting Brakmar on Nox, since back when open world PvP was a thing, they were our main opponents. I've done quite a few 6v6s and my fair share of 1v1s which definitely helped for the tournament.

What attracted you in joining the tournament?

Hatespawn: Honestly, Tulish just messaged me, asking if it sounded like fun. Later that day, Nutella had asked if I wanted to partner with him, and that's kinda what sealed the deal. I'd been looking into other tournaments Barinade had run, but I never really got involved, since disorganized PvP was my strong suit.

Nutella Covered Balls: I like to compete in any organized PvP that I can since it more or less levels the playing field, and once Hate agreed to come with me that was basically it.

How did you prepare for the tournament?

Hatespawn: Well, we knew right out of the gate that we had to watch for the Rarehunters team, due to our experiences with them in the past. When going into the 2nd Round Nutella and I had spoken a lot about possible strategies, both before and during the fights. We ended up sticking with the same plan after our loss, which was "Kill the Enutrof". Otherwise, we were always ready for the fight.

Nutella Covered Balls: Hate and I theorycrafted a few ideas to counter the Sacrifice meta, mainly using Elio's stabilize and blind, which worked relatively well during a few fights. Other than that, we really didn't do much to prepare.

What’s your team’s biggest strength and weakness (if any)?

Hatespawn: Our strength is probably the builds we use. Each of our characters have incredible survivability and damage potential, which is what separated our Sacrier from the others in the tournament, and my Iop from other damage dealers. Weakness... Well, the lack of ranged damage on anyone other than the Eliotrope, who needed to be 'zerked to do much as far as that goes. We just compensated by being robust and hard hitting.

Nutella Covered Balls: Our team's biggest strengh is definitely our sheer damage output. We've learned from previous PvP experience that momentum is everything and pumping damage is the best way to accomplish that.

What was the tournament like for you overall?

Hatespawn: Well, the 1st Round was disappointing, due to only two matches. The 2nd Round was nerve racking due to having five fights with the team we were the most weary of. I really would've liked to fight Black Black Club, or earn kamas for the win... But I really enjoyed it. Barinade really did a good job with this. Looking forward to the next one! Hopefully the format attracts new competition.

Nutella Covered Balls: It was pretty fun. We knew from the start that Rarehunters would be our scariest opponent, so having to fight them 5 times was pretty fun. I feel like more teams next time would make it more fun since a lot of the matches were repeats.

What do you think made the difference for you to win this tournament?

Hatespawn: Honestly it was maybe 40% skill, 30% gear, and 30% timing. Right from the start, our wins against Rarehunters were 100% based on our ability to one turn the Enutrof. We surprised him the first time, and any others was just overcoming his attempts to prevent the repetition of it. Our characters packing such a huge punch definitely made the biggest difference, though. For the first few turns it was always about getting prepared to focus the Enutrof.

Nutella Covered Balls: I think there were 2 main things on our team compared to our opponents that made the difference. First being that if you look at every other Sac that competed, they either focused tankyness or damage. If you compare that with Hatespawn, he hit as hard as the damage ones, and was almost as tanky as the tanks. Second, we actually did something to counter the tank Sacs and we had the damage to kill things in that 1 off turn from Sacrifice.

Do you have any advise for other players who want to do PvP?

Hatespawn: Just get gear, have fun. I'd say any class is viable in a 3v3 or 4v4 scenario, you just need a good team to back you up. Get your friends together and have a blast. Other guilds who normally don't PvP showed up to Strengthstorm and had a great time. Would love to see more of that in the next tournament!

Nutella Covered Balls: Honestly, Sacrifice is completely busted right now, so just couple a Sac with some damage and you've got a fully functioning team.

Anything that you would like to add?

Hatespawn: Sacrifice kind of made the fight drag on. I'd like to see some kind of ban system, or just outright saying "Sacrifice isn't allowed". I don't think it's fair for the most well-rounded class to be able to cause havoc throughout each fight of the tournament.

Nutella Covered Balls: I think Sacrifice makes these tourneys longer and more boring than they need to be, so I would like to see something done about that. Other than that I had a lot of fun and can't wait for the next one.

PvP Tournament: Ecadraft, the Ban System

$
0
0

In an earlier newsletter, we told you about an inter-server PvP tournament. This time, we'd like to talk about our ban system.

For the ban system, two of our French consulting players suggested an unusual idea… and it won us over! Today, Augaroma and Jimbow (the organizers of Wafku Warriors on Dathura) are going to tell us about their totally new system – Ecadraft! Let's let them do the talking:

How do you build a team?

A team must be made up of 6 level-200 characters from different classes belonging to the same server. It must consist of a minimum of 3 distinct players. Hero mode is allowed, but is limited to 1 hero per player. Multi-accounting is forbidden.

*Warning: Once your team has registered, it is forbidden to change the classes or nicknames of any of the registered characters. Doing so will lead to disqualification. The team must maintain the same composition throughout the tournament.

What is Ecadraft?

It's the name of the character selection system that takes place before every match throughout the tournament. The teams are composed of 6 characters, but only 3 characters per team are selected to battle in a match at the end of the pick and ban phase. Knowing your opponents as early as the character selection phase and coming up with a strategy will be crucial.

How does Ecadraft work?

As soon as Ecadraft is launched, you are required to flip a coin… and luck takes control of your fate. Heads or tails? Does this thing with a coin remind you of anything? Indeed, the whole thing was inspired by the gods, Ecaflip and Ouginak! Each side of this coin shows one of these two gods. Heads is Ecaflip and Tails is Ouginak, and the one you get determines how the Ecadraft will play out:

  • How "Ecaflip Ecadrafts" Play Out

The god Ecaflap is a major tease, but not a big baddie. You'll start out by choosing a character who you think is key to your strength… someone who'll lead you to victory. All or nothing! You need to aim high with this first choice. It's up to you to pick the right character because next up, two of your other characters will be banned, and only then can you complete your team by picking its last two members. Place your bets!

  1. Select one of the characters on your team
  2. Ban two characters on the opposing team
  3. Select two characters on your team

*BO3 & BO5: With an "Ecaflip Ecadraft" in BO3 or BO5, you won't be allowed to select the same character in step (1) for the other matches in the same BO.

Both teams of 3 have been selected and the match can begin!

  • How "Ouginak Ecadrafts" Play Out

With the god Ouginak – the very incarnation of persistence and ferociousness – prove your determination by overcoming challenges one by one. It's up to you to knock the opposing team off-balance by depriving them of their strongest link during the first stage of the selection process. It'll then be up to you to choose two of your characters. But watch out: You're going to have to be both careful and strategic because the third character in your team will be chosen for you by the opposing team. And they'll be more than happy to rip your carefully planned strategies and synergies to shreds.

  1. Ban a character on the opposing team
  2. Select two characters on your team
  3. Pick a character for the opposing team

*BO3 & BO5: With an "Ouginak Ecadraft" in BO3 or BO5 you won't be allowed to ban the same character in step (1) for the other matches in the same BO.

Both teams of 3 have been selected and the match can begin!

Where do the matches take place?

All the matches take place in Ecaflipus. For each match, the map on which the two teams will confront each other will be automatically drawn as soon as the Ecadraft is launched. This means you can take into account the layout of each map when making your selection.

We hope you enjoy this new system! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to leave a comment below this article!

Beta Update 1.61 is Online!

The Beta server has been updated this Friday, August 17th. Discover the latest developments, changes, and don't forget to share with us your feedback!

ULTIMATE BOSS: SHADOFANG

  • Shadofang is not available for testing, but we have provided the equipment that you can loot from her. They can be found in a machine at Ecaflipus. We have sought for a new "style" of items to renew the game at level 200, read our devblog about it and give us your feedback!

CLASSES

 General

  • Reduced the number of visual applications of states applied by a particular class. "Mechanic" states applied multiple times within a small number of actions no longer appear above characters.

Combat phases should be clearer. Examples of such states include: Great Clockmaker and Temporal Prism (Xelor), Humility (Feca), Heating and Pressure (Foggernaut), Weak Point (Sram), etc.

Enutrof

  • The Firedamp Explosion spell can now remove resistance.
  • Casting Firedamp Explosion on a mine from a distance will transfer it under the Enutrof, while also dropping the active mine on the target cell.

Huppermage

  • The Principio Valere spell will no longer affect a character carrying another character or the character being carried.

Osamodas

  • A creature summoned by the Osamodas can no longer execute a critical hit if its summoner has a 0% or lower critical hit rate.

The summoned creature has the same critical hit rate as its summoner, and this rate will update in real time. Previously, the creature would return to its base critical hit rate when that of its summoner was 0% or below.

Ouginak

  • The mobility effects of the Ouginak spells Big Dog and Tracking will properly apply to 9-cell bosses.

Pandawa

  • Pandawhack will apply or consume the Dizzy state before causing damage. This fix has the effect of correctly granting Armor to the Pandawa even if they kill the target with the spell.

Client Optimization

This update brings many changes to the client, making it more smoother and stable.

The optimizations are mainly aimed at improving the client's performance when traveling and when in populated areas. At this stage of Update 1.61's development, we can hardly estimate the precise effects of these changes on your gameplay experience. Here is a non-exhaustive list of the effects observed internally following these modifications:

  • Smoother movement, even after travelling long distances.
  • The performance on the arrival of a character in a populated area has been greatly improved (spawning/movement of the character to the area).
  • "Freezing after moving 18 cells" should no longer occur for the majority of configurations, except special cases (arriving in a very busy area - case for which performance has been improved).
  • In a more general way, the display of animated elements has been improved, the performances when many elements are displayed should be slightly better.

Come and try all of these new Beta changes, download the client and share with us your feedback on the forum!

Note: Only Aerafal's characters were imported, but you can create a character on the Beta server if your characters are available. Token machines with EXP scrolls and equipment are available at Ecaflipus.

Note 2: We ask you not to enter Wagnar's Castle for the moment. Indeed, the exit teleporter is absent.

A warrior as courageous as he is reckless, Iop set the stage for a goddess adept in martial arts: Pandawa. She's taking over the reins in this new God Pack!

When a Pandawa drinks, her enemies clink! And since the goddess's disciples never spill a drop either when it comes to slugging back their sacred pints, things could get ugly. That's right: For a few days, the God Pack is devoted to Pandawa. And that'll be obvious with the two all new items in the pack:

  • the God Pandawa Finisher
  • the Eternal Thirst animated Costume

The pack also contains:

  • the Pandawa Haven Bag Kit
  • the Golden Krakotte Pet
  • 3 Mineral Tower Tickets
  • and the 30 Day God Booster

The Pandawa God Pack is available in the shop until 11:59 PM CEST on Wednesday, September 5 for just €20!
