Battlefields : Improvements and new game modes

For the next update (1.59), we've completely overhauled the design of the "Capture the Flowers" battlefield, and we're adding new variants to existing battlefields!

"Capture the Flowers" gameplay

This battlefield works pretty well after the improvements we've made, but we're still not completely satisfied. That's why we've decided to make some tweaks to its design so that the battlefield will generate more confrontations between players over different key objectives.

To achieve this, there will now be only a limited number of flowers to be captured from the enemy camp. You'll find them at 6 fixed locations around the battlefield, and only one flower can be captured from each location every 4 minutes for all players combined.

A player who captures a flower has to bring it back to their own team's pot, the same way as before. But the team no longer wins points right when it brings back the flower; instead, the team wins points over time, based on the number of flowers it has in its pot.

Note that a flower pot can only contain up to 10 flowers at a time. Your opponents can also come and grab a flower out of your pot, then bring it back to theirs! So it's important to defend your own flowers and steal as many as you can from your opponents.

A few final details:

  • The actions of picking and putting down a flower now take several seconds. This prevents the opposing team from stealing flowers from you before you have time to react.
  • If a player carrying a flower loses a battle, the flower is destroyed. It is not picked up by the opposing team.
  • A victory against Darth Wodent now applies a bonus state to all members of the winning camp, not just to the team that fought in the battle. That should make this objective a lot more attractive for everyone!

Heroic Battlefields

We'd like your help in testing out a new variant of the existing battlefield modes. This variant will be available on the "Great Escort" and "Capture the Flowers" modes. It's called "heroic" because if you defeat an opponent on this setting, they won't be able to return to the battlefield.

The goal of this variant is to raise the stakes for PvP fights and encourage the creation of multi-player battles. It should also allow a camp that's outnumbered to pull off a comeback win if they are better organized and better at PvP fights than their opponents.

"Free Fight" mode

You've asked for it many times in the past: a battlefield on which the only objective is to engage in PvP combat. Although we still aren't completely convinced of the long-term value of a mode like this, we've decided to give the people what they want!

This new battlefield lets you engage in all types of fights, from 1v1 to 3v3.

At first, this new type of battlefield will use the same map as "The Great Escort", but with no secondary objectives. If this mode is a hit, we'll create a separate map for it with a dedicated theme.
